Tips for Photographing Your Wedding Details

When we start talking to our couples about “getting ready photos,” some tell us not to worry about it. But, what couples tend to forget is that “getting ready photos” are more than just portraits of the bride having her makeup done or a groom toasting with his groomsmen. This time during the morning of your wedding is the perfect time for your photographer to capture your wedding details! All of the little things you took the time to choose and plan should be documented, too!

What’s involved in “getting ready photos?”

While we definitely want to capture a few portraits of our couples preparing, “getting ready photos” aren’t JUST photos of them. We’ll 100% grab portraits of our bride as she gets into her wedding dress and once she’s all ready. With fresh makeup and hair, it’s a no brainer. And, of course, we’ll get the groom putting his custom jacket on and opening his gift. But, we’re also going to create beautifully styled flat lays of all of your wedding details from your rings to your program and all the rest in between!

What do you mean “wedding details”?

When we say “wedding details,” we mean items like your wedding rings, your bouquet, wedding dress, shoes, hair accessories, veil, and ring box. We’ll also be looking for your invitation suite and ceremony program. For the guys, we want your cufflinks, gift boxes, tuxes, and shoes.

Do our couples have to provide the styling details?

Nope! The only thing you have to do is gather your details for us! Put them in a bag or box so that when we arrive and have a moment, we can grab the box and get to work. You can also ask a member of the bridal party to be in charge of getting it all together for you! If it’s ready for us, we won’t have to bug you to get it. We’ll take care of the other details that bring your detail shots to life!

We’ll bring our favorite staging mat from Chasing Stone. If you want to get your own because you know there’s just one you HAVE to use, feel free! We have a discount code we can email you! And, if you have a “Mrs. box,” we LOVE including those in our flat lays. If not, grab one today using our discount code (email us for that, too!). We always encourage our couples to ask their florist for a few loose pieces of flowers, greenery, or whatever matches your florals for the day. This can be a great way to elevate the flat lays we create with your details!
