I'm your girl!
Nice to meet you! The owner and lead Photo-Novelist behind Sara Zarrella Photography—a pint-sized, (often caffeinated) burst of energy who loves my family, my clients, and the incredible stories I’m lucky enough to tell through my images.
As a native Rhode Islander and lover of all things coastal, I’ve spent over 25 years capturing hundreds of couples and their most meaningful moments—always with a focus on connection, emotion, and storytelling.
Most importantly, I’m a wife to one very good-looking husband (in my opinion!) and a mom to three little ones—two too-sassy-for-their-own-good girls and the sweetest boy.
I'm Sara!

Photography has always been more than a passion—it’s what I was meant to do.
I began my photography journey pursuing an Art degree at Northeastern University, followed by an incredible opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, at the Studio Art Center International.
While in Italy, I refined my craft surrounded by centuries-old architecture—and, of course, plenty of gelato. After graduating, I continued my education at both the Rhode Island School of Design and the New England School of Photography, further shaping my approach to storytelling through imagery.
From there, I headed to the Big Apple, where I worked as a photo editor at InStyle magazine. I was immersed in the glamorous world of fashion, music, and entertainment—but before long, I found myself missing the ocean. So I returned to my roots in the smallest state, “Little Rhody”—which feels pretty fitting, considering I’m under five feet tall.

The most important experiences of all have been the connections I have made ....
The most fulfilling part of what I do is witnessing their stories unfold. From their beautiful wedding day, to the excitement of pregnancy, to those fleeting newborn moments—and continuing to document their families as they grow over the years—it’s an honor to be part of it all.
with the hundreds of SZP couples and families I’ve had the privilege of working with over the past 25+ years.

A valued member of the Sara Zarrella Photography team for over 20 years, I’m rarely without a camera nearby — always ready to capture the little moments that spark inspiration. I am a loyal Millennial! The candid, joy-filled connections between loved ones are what inspire me most.
To me, photographs are more than images — they’re memories frozen in time. It’s an honor to create photographs that will be treasured for generations.
Photography has always been more than a career for me; it’s an artistic form of storytelling. My passion began with street photography, shooting on a 35mm black-and-white film camera and becoming fascinated by the emotion and stories a single frame could hold.
After earning my degree in photography, I began freelancing professionally — which is when I met Sara Zarrella. What started as a friendship quickly grew into a creative partnership, and the rest is history.

A valued member of the Sara Zarrella Photography team for the past five years, my love for photography began at just ten years old when I received my very first camera — and I’ve been hooked ever since! From staging cousin photoshoots in my grandparents’ basement to capturing life’s biggest milestones, creating joyful, beautiful imagery has always been what lights me up most.
I truly believe photographs become part of our legacy. They tell the story of our lives, our relationships, and the moments that matter most. Being trusted to capture those memories is something I never take for granted.
One of my favorite parts of this job is getting a front-row seat to some of life’s most meaningful moments — weddings, growing families, birthdays, and everything in between. These are the moments that become part of your story forever.
I began photographing professionally in 2016 in my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and quickly fell in love with the art of storytelling through photography. After moving to Newport in 2017, it took me a little time to reconnect with my creative passion, but finding Sara Zarrella and joining the SZP team felt like coming home.
