In This Episode:

How do I know what food allergies and dietary restrictions my guests have?

Ask your guests about dietary restrictions on the RSVP card or wedding website — include a clear deadline.

What are some simple ways to avoid cross-contamination on buffets and charcuterie boards?

We suggest, keeping charcuterie meats, cheeses, and breads separate. Buffets should have at least one entrée per dietary restriction, with clear labels (GF, DF, NF, etc.). And be sure to let allergy-sensitive guests go through the buffet line first to also help prevent cross-contact.

What should servers do during plated dinners to accommodate allergies?

For plated meals, servers should confirm allergies and meal choices at the table.

What’s the difference between gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan — and why does it matter?

Gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan all address different dietary needs, so understanding the distinction ensures guests are served food that’s actually safe for them.

How can couples make cocktail hour more allergy-friendly?

It is best to remember that not all alcohol is gluten-free (watch out for beer and margaritas), avoid paper straws, and let allergy guests know which hors d’oeuvres are safe ahead of time.

How can couples be thoughtful about allergy-friendly desserts without overcomplicating things?

Not all gluten-free/dairy-free/vegan treats are created equal. If you’re going to offer another option get their recommendation first.

What’s the difference in planning for food allergies with buffets vs. plated meals?

Buffets require clear labels and careful setup to avoid cross-contamination, while plated meals need advance coordination and a seating chart to ensure each guest gets the right dish.
