This special day was years in the making! Amanda and Wilhelm met years ago and were married in Germany, where Wilhelm is from. This sweet couple decided to celebrate with a vow renewal here in the states; this would be an event which would bring both of their families together for the first time. It was fun learning how the culture is different in Germany around weddings. For example, when I met Wilhelm on the day of the vow renewal, he explained that they just party until they are done, rather than setting a time limit on the celebration. He said they would probably be going until early the next morning!

I was so happy that Amanda and Wilhelm understood the importance of capturing this day. They were already married, and this was not a typical wedding day; however, they knew that we would not just be capturing photos of the big day – we were capturing family photos. With their families meeting each other for the first time (and maybe not again, since they live so far apart), it was that much more important to record those memories, and we were so thrilled to be able to do that for their families.

ProTip: It’s particularly important not to skimp on the photographer. If this is an event where the attendees may be seeing each other for the first time in a long time, and may not get together again for a while. Also, remember to get formal photos as well as candids. Those outtake moments are so special; photos of people you love enjoying being around each other are priceless.

On the big day, I met Amanda at MGM, where she got ready at the spa and hotel. When we left the hotel, she was the “star”! Everyone was cheering for her as she walked through the lobby at the Casino in her beautiful lace dress. 🙂

Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Connecticut is absolutely breathtaking! With a water view and manicured golf course, it’s a photographer’s dream! The ceremony took place overlooking lake, with fall foliage as a gorgeous backdrop. We were sure to take photos in front of the lake, bridge, and golf course. Amanda’s lace dress was stunning against the foliage!

ProTip: Make sure your photographer knows how to shoot a significant height difference. Amanda is short in stature like myself, and her groom is a pretty tall guy!

Amanda and Wilhelm danced all night with their guests – it was one huge party! They were treated to lots of great speeches, and it was fun to see Wilhelm’s parents incorporate German traditions like the giving of symbolic gifts to the couple. It was lovely to hear the translation of the gifts and meaning behind their union.

After the reception, the party continued back at the MGM Casino of course! Wilhelm got his German tradition of partying the night away.
